Somebody on X recommended watching the movie, “Man of God”…
…and I did today.
It was a great film. Although the story of Saint Nektarios of Aegina was…overall…inspiring, it was also depressing.
(I worry that that combination is going to be fairly regular within the Orthodox church, given that a book that a Father recommended to me, Apostle to the Plains: The Life of Father Nicola, was exactly the same way. :-))
I highly recommend watching the movie (and reading or listening to the book I also mentioned). They will be edifying. A faithful selflessness in both men until their deaths.
As of writing this (September 1, 2024), you can watch “Man of God” for free if you have Amazon Prime or if you are willing to have advertisements with Vudu/Fandango. You can also purchase it there and elsewhere. (Amazon Prime might also require ads if you don’t pay the up charge to avoid them like I do.)
P.S. I thought I saw Mickey Rourke in it! Small part at the end…but I’m glad it wasn’t just my imagination.
